Donating plasma is simple – but the number one reason new donors are turned away is because they forget their IDs. Make sure you bring everything on the list so we can check you in quickly.

A valid photo ID.
This can include a driver's license, state-issued identification, passport or military ID. If you're a student, you can bring a school ID and a copy of your birth certificate that verifies your birth date. If you have an out-of-state ID, you'll need to provide proof of your current household address (see below).

Proof of your Social Security number.
This can include a Social Security card, a W-2 form or a paycheck stub printed with your full name and entire Social Security number. You can also get Social Security verification from your local Supplemental Security Income (SSI) office. If you're not a U.S. citizen, you may provide proof of your Individual Taxpayer Identification number (ITIN).

VERY IMPORTANT: The name on your photo ID MUST EXACTLY MATCH the name on your proof of Social Security number

Donating: Step By Step

Check-in.
A friendly donation center team member will greet you and ask you to provide a valid photo ID, proof of your current address and your Social Security or immigration card. You will answer a questionnaire or use a Donor Doc® touch-screen kiosk to determine your eligibility by answering some confidential behavior and medical history questions.

Physical Exam.
If this is your first time donating plasma, you will also receive a confidential physical exam given by one of our trained center medical specialists. You will receive a physical exam at least annually to make sure you remain in good health.

Screening.
You'll receive a health screening each time you donate to make sure you are in general good health and that you meet the donation criteria. We'll take a blood sample and check your vital signs including your blood pressure, pulse and temperature.

Donation.
A trained phlebotomist will escort you to a donation bed to begin the plasma donation process. A specialized medical device will separate your plasma from your other blood components through a safe, automated process called plasmapheresis

Reward
To thank you for your donation and commitment to helping others, we compensate you for your time spent with us. Contact your local plasma donation center with any additional questions.

After-Care.
While plasma regenerates very quickly (usually within 24-48 hours) and plasmapheresis has few to no adverse effects, it is important to take care of yourself after your donation. Having something to eat and drink within two hours after your donation helps replenish your blood volume and restore your energy.
